Chapter 10
This Is Called the Show
Tina whipped the Porsche truck into the parking lot at the Meadowlands. She was fuming but she paused before exiting the SUV.
“You sure you don’t want to talk about it?” Michell asked.
“I’m good. I told you I’m a woman ‘bout my shit. I just want to look in this bitch face.”
Tina had gotten a call from one of her artists. She had attended a pool party at a mansion Dana had just bought out in Beverly Hills. Trey and Dana seemed to be a couple, and there had been a lot of other industry people there.
Tina thanked her friend for the information and sat in stunned silence for half an hour. After she finished crying, she got herself together to handle the situation like the baddest bitch. She wasn’t going to chase no man. No matter how much she loved him.
Michell and Tina got out of the SUV and headed toward the artist media entrance. The music grew louder as they moved beyond the security check point and into the arena. They had only walked a few yards before the two lead members from BUTCH greeted them. Michell couldn’t believe how beautiful the girls were in person. They were cute in their videos but, in person, they were gorgeous.
“Hey, chick,” one of the girls said as they walked up.
“Hey, Camecca, Fahkirah. This is my sister, Michell.”
“Hey,” the girls said in unison.
“How y’all doin’? Oh, my God! Y’all are so pretty!”
Both of the girls giggled.
“Thank you. I’m Fahkirah,” the lighter of the two said extending her hand. “Nice to meet you, Michell.”
“Hi. I’m Camecca.-”
“And, together we are…,” Fahkirah broke in suddenly.
“BUTCH,” The two hummingbirds said melodically.
Fahkirah put a hand over her mouth and laughed.
“I’m sorry. We been waiting for a chance to do that.”
“Girl, these two are crazy just like you. Y’all gonna get along fine. Who’s performing right now?”
“Some girl group,” Camecca said.
“Oh,” Tina responded with a smile.
Camecca was referring to Partial Print, a neo soul duo that was their current competition on radio and video. As far as sales were concerned, Butch had them beat by 1.5 million which was the reason they were performing in the early part of the show. Butch was scheduled to close the show. The other band members were also their production team. They were all musician’ and they planned to do an hour and a half live performance. The promoters felt that was big enough to beat Annie out even with her hot new release. Hustle Kingz would go on right before Annie.
“Did you see…,” Tina started.
“Your beau?” Fahkirah asked cutting Tina off.
“Sure did. Their entourage came in, like, ten minutes before you. He came over and gave us a hug, but girlfriend walked by us like we were some groupies waiting backstage. That lady need prayer,” Fahkirah said referring to Dana.
“Or, some healing hands to touch her,” Tina said. “I’m about to go to their dressing room. I’ll talk to y’all again before y’all go on. Y’all ready?”
“Of course,” the girls said in unison.
